Beach Breeze

I have a friend ask for a book recommendation almost weekly.  One friend told me last night that I should rent my books like a library and use the proceeds for my blog.  While that thought is mildly entertaining, I would rather just share a few of my favorites with you.

In today's post, I am going to cover beach reads.  For all of those boys who may have stumbled on my blog, these are NOT for you.  These are breezy, nonsensical books perfect for a holiday read by the beach.

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

Twenties Girl: A Novel [Book]

Sophie Kinsella is one of my very favorite chick-lit authors.  You may remember her from her Confessions of a Shopaholic series, but I prefer her stand-alone novels.  Twenties Girl is a peak into the life of Lara Lington, a newly dumped 27 year-old living in London.  Her life is in complete shambles until she gets a ghostly visit from her cocktail-drinking, swing dancing, great aunt.  I know this might sound hoakie, but this book is hilarious! Every friend that has borrowed it has fallen completely in love!

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

The Help [Book]

Most of you have probably read this novel, but for those who haven't, high-tail it to the book store and buy this baby before the movie comes out.  I swear you won't regret it. The Help chronicles the relationship between Mississippi southern belles and their hired "help" during the 60's. This book will make you laugh, cry and recommend to every single person you know. If you haven't already, go read The Help.

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

The Undomestic Goddess [Book]

This book is also by Sophie Kinsella and is in the pre-production stages of a major motion picture. Go read it before the previews hit theaters! The Undomestic Goddess follows high-powered London lawyer, Samantha Sweeting, on the verge of a nervous breakdown.  Trying to escape the city, Sweeting hops on a train to the middle of nowhere and into a job as a maid for the first mansion she sees.  The only problem being, she has never cooked or cleaned a thing in her life, and her new employers have no idea who she really is.

Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews

Savannah Blues, Mary Kay Andrews, Audio Compact Disc

If you like fluff and mystery this is the book for you. "Weezie" Foley was booted to the backyard carriage house after her ex-husband's mistress moved into their lovely historic home after the divorce. If this wasn't bad enough, Weezie stumbles upon a murder sure to keep your pages turning all night. This book is completely charming and will have you wishing to visit Savannah the moment you begin reading.

The Luxe Series by Anna Godbersen
The Luxe

The best way to describe this series is Gossip Girl for the early 1900s.  The series begins in 1899 and follows the juicy lives of New York City's elite. Full of envy, love, secrets, and betrayal these books will keep you begging for more.  Did I mention they also detail every fabulous ball gown from the premiere department store of the era, Lord and Taylor? A must read.

That should be enough fluff to keep you occupied for a couple of days.  Also if you haven't read the books from my last post, HERE, then check those out as well.
